The 2025 International Children’s Day Celebration in Kumawu was a vibrant and memorable event filled with excitement, unity, and purposeful learning. The event was on Thursday, 20th November, 2025. The theme for the celebration was “Different Minds, Equal Worth – Celebrating Every Child’s Unique Brilliance: Creating Awareness of Dyslexia and Neurodiversity,” guided all activities for the day.
The event began with a lively float (march) featuring selected KG learners from both public and private schools. With 10 learners chosen from each school, a total of 111 children marched through the streets of Kumawu to create awareness about dyslexia and the importance of embracing neurodiversity. They were accompanied by 12 teachers, including two headteachers and some office staff. The float set off from Abotanso Junction, passed through the Kumawu Roundabout, and ended at the Chief’s Park, where the main programme commenced.
The District Director of Education, Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu, welcomed all participants and commended Mad. Esther Amaokoh, Early childhood Coordinator and the Early Childhood Unit for organizing such a meaningful and engaging event. He encouraged teachers and learners to actively participate in the activities and emphasized the importance of nurturing young minds through inclusive education.
Participating schools included Kumawu Benevolent KG, Kumawu Presbyterian KG, Kumawu St. Martin’s R/C KG, Kumawu St. Peter’s Anglican KG, Kumawu Apostolic KG, Kumawu SDA KG, Elise Norris Catholic Academy KG, Justice Wiredu Methodist KG, Okyere Academy KG, and Riyadh Educational Complex KG. Their involvement brought life and competitive energy to the celebration.
Learners enjoyed the games which were designed to promote teamwork, motor skills, and physical development. Activities included a 30 metres race, sack race, football matches, bottle dance, and lime and spoon race. The competitions were intense and brought out the best in the young participants.
A highlight of the event was the impressive performance of the first-place winners across the activities. In the boys’ category, Kumawu Presbyterian KG emerged champions in both the football match and 30 metres race. Kumawu SDA KG secured first place in the lime and spoon event, while Justice Wiredu Methodist KG won the sack race. Kumawu Apostolic KG claimed the top spot in the bottle dance, showcasing their learners’ coordination and rhythm.
The girls’ category was equally vibrant, with Kumawu Benevolent KG winning the football match. Riyadh International KG claimed first place in the lime and spoon, while Kumawu SDA KG dominated the sack race and the 30 metres race. Riyadh Educational Complex KG also put up an outstanding performance by winning the bottle dance.
The celebration highlighted the talents and abilities of the learners and also reinforced the district’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and understanding of neurodiversity.
The 2025 International Children’s Day Celebration in Kumawu was indeed a day of joy, learning, and unity – leaving a lasting impact on learners, teachers, and the entire community.
