The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, has shared 21 key education interventions captured in the 2026 Budget.
Details of the 21 key education interventions shared by the GES PRO are provided below:
- An amount of GH¢33.3 billion has been allocated to the Ministry of Education for its activities in 2026.
- GH¢9.9 billion has been allocated to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
- An amount of GH¢4.2 billion has been provisioned for the implementation of Free Secondary Education in 2026.
- To end the double-track system and improve the quality of secondary education, GH¢1.1 billion has been allocated to the Ghana Secondary Learning Improvement Programme (GSLIP) in 2026.
- An amount of GH¢2.0 billion has been allocated for the construction of:
- (a) 200 new Junior High Schools;
- (b) 200 new primary schools;
- (c) 200 kindergartens;
- (d) 400 four-unit teachers’ bungalows; and
- (e) 400 places of convenience in underserved communities.
- GH¢3.0 billion has been allocated for:
- (a) four sets of KG books and workbooks for about 200,000 learners;
- (b) four sets of primary textbooks for 2 million learners;
- (c) nine sets of JHS 3 textbooks for 500,000 learners;
- (d) procurement of over 2 million metal mono-desks and chairs; and
- (e) 200 units of 66-seater buses and 200 double-cabin pick-ups for distribution to secondary schools across the country.
- GH¢25 million has been allocated for Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities.
- The “No-Fee-Stress” policy will continue, with an allocation of GH¢537 million in 2026.
- GH¢207 million has been allocated for Teacher Trainee Allowances.
- An amount of GH¢169 million has been allocated for BECE registration.
- The government has allocated GH¢292 million for free sanitary pads for girls.
- GH¢1.98 billion has been allocated for the School Feeding Programme.
- To improve learning outcomes, GH¢157 million has been allocated for the Capitation Grant.
- President Mahama has directed all schools, from basic to secondary, to purchase rice, maize, chicken, and eggs produced in Ghana only.
- Ten (10) Category B schools will be upgraded to Category A status and equipped with modern classrooms, dormitories, libraries, and science and ICT laboratories.
- Thirty (30) Category C schools will be upgraded to Category B level, with new classrooms, dormitories, modern science resource centres, digital learning centres, and water and sanitation systems.
- The government will complete 30 of the abandoned E-Blocks (Community Day Senior High Schools) in urban and peri-urban areas to expand access for students.
- The government has secured US$60 million for the construction of a Science and Technology University at Damongo.
- The University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (Bunso) will be opened in 2026.
- New Technical Universities in Jasikan and Techiman will be completed.
- New public universities will be established in Kintampo and Dambai.
