The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has initiated investigations into alleged examination malpractices recorded during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and has formally invited affected candidates to appear before its regional offices for further questioning.
In an official notice, WAEC revealed that both school and private candidates believed to have engaged in infractions such as impersonation, copying, and collusion are to report to designated WAEC regional offices across the country on specific dates. These appearances are part of a due process mechanism aimed at ensuring fairness before the Council concludes its decisions.
Importantly, WAEC has published a comprehensive list of affected candidates, which includes their full names, index numbers, and contact numbers of their parents or guardians, along with the specific date and location they are expected to appear for the inquiry. This list has been shared with school authorities and is also available at WAEC regional offices.

Candidates have been sternly cautioned that failure to attend these scheduled sessions will not halt the Council from finalising its decisions, which may include cancellation of results, suspension, or disqualification from future examinations. The Council maintains that cooperation is the best path to resolution.
A WAEC spokesperson, speaking to the media, said: “This process is not only to ensure accountability but also to offer candidates a fair opportunity to respond to the allegations. Upholding the credibility of our national exams is non-negotiable.”
Parents and guardians are encouraged to take the invitation seriously and accompany their wards if possible. Candidates are also advised to bring along all relevant documentation, including examination slips and valid identification, to facilitate the process.
The Council has reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness, while also safeguarding the sanctity of Ghana’s educational assessment system. Though WAEC confirmes that investigations are ongoing and outcomes will be communicated in due course.
