Sekyere Kumawu District COHBS Holds 2025 District Delegates Conference, Elects New Leadership

The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) in the Sekyere Kumawu District has successfully held its 2025 District Delegates Conference at the Presbyterian Church Auditorium in Kumawu on Wednesday, 28th May 2025.

The conference brought together headteachers and education stakeholders from across the district to assess the current state of basic education, propose strategic solutions, and elect a new leadership team to steer the affairs of COHBS-Sekyere Kumawu for the next four years.

Nana Kwame Obeng Frimpong, Head of Department for Supervision and Monitoring at the Sekyere Kumawu District Education Directorate, served as Guest Speaker and delivered the keynote address. He outlined critical challenges confronting basic schools, including shortages of teaching and learning materials, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to digital tools. He encouraged headteachers to lead with innovation and adaptability.

“Today’s headteachers must not only manage but also transform their schools,” he urged.

In a solidarity message, Mr. Osei Boateng Kingsford, Ashanti Regional PRO for COHBS, stressed the need for collective action to overcome resource constraints and maximise the opportunities presented by curriculum reform and technology integration.

“Let us work hand in hand to build a basic education system that is inclusive, innovative, and ready for tomorrow,” he said.

The conference adopted key resolutions presented by Mr. Emmanuel Osei Acheampong on behalf of the Resolutions Committee. Highlights included:

That National and Regional CoHBS help ALL substantive headteachers to enjoy the responsibility allowance which has eluded most of our members.

That the responsibility allowance be made 30% of Base pay of each headteacher and that amount be separated on the payslip.

Headteachers who are not occupying Government Bungalows should be paid the 20% accommodation allowance as the 2024 GES Collective Agreement stipulates on page 56.

Basic schools should be supplied with required item such as textbooks, chalk/marker, furniture etc) needed for the smooth running of schools

The Ghana Education Service should provide headteachers with Data Bundle for effective sending of frequent information to District and headquarters.

The Ghana Education Service Should pay Utility bills of all basic schools that pay such bills.

The resolutions reflected a collective call for improved working conditions, greater equity, and enhanced delivery of education services at the basic level.
