The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), has officially announced the commencement of the 2024 School Selection Exercise for candidates of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This important exercise is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
According to a release by the GES, the School Selection Process will span a period of seven days, from Wednesday, August 28, 2024, to Wednesday, September 4, 2024. During this time, candidates will have the opportunity to select their preferred senior high schools, STEM schools, technical institutes, and vocational training centers. The process is a critical step in ensuring that students are placed in institutions that best suit their academic and career aspirations.
The GES has advised parents and guardians to be actively involved in the school selection process. It was stressed that their involvement is crucial to ensuring that the candidates make informed decisions, which will facilitate a smooth placement into their chosen institutions. The GES emphasized that the school selection process is a pivotal moment for the students, and the support and guidance of parents and guardians can significantly impact the outcome.
In addition to the traditional selection process, there will be an option for candidates to confirm their selected school choices via a short code before the final placement is conducted. The GES has assured the public that the short code and relevant instructions will be provided in due time. This confirmation process is intended to minimize errors and ensure that students’ preferences are accurately recorded.
The GES has urged all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and candidates, to take this year’s School Selection Exercise seriously. The success of the placement process hinges on the collective effort and attention to detail of everyone involved.
