14 Arrested Across Ghana for Examination Malpractice in WASSCE 2025

At least 14 individuals, including teachers, students, and invigilators, have been arrested nationwide in connection with the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The arrests were recorded at Yeji Senior High School, Abbott College in Asante Bekwai, Atwima Kwanwoma Presbyterian SHS, and several other examination centres across the country.

Addressing the media, the Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), John Kapi, confirmed that the number of arrests continues to increase. He added that the results of candidates from all affected schools will undergo strict scrutiny.

In Kumasi, WAEC shut down the Adventist Day Senior High School examination centre after several mobile phones were confiscated. The affected candidates were transferred to the Council’s regional office to write their examinations under enhanced supervision.

Several cases have already led to sanctions. Two impersonators arrested at Kasoa were sentenced to six months in prison each, while their accomplice received an eight-month sentence. In a separate case, the proprietor of Christian School in Kukurantumi and a teacher were arrested for creating a WhatsApp group to circulate examination questions.

In Abura Dunkwa, one suspect, identified as Ebenazer Fynn, was also arrested for impersonation and is currently assisting police with investigations.

Mr. Kapi reaffirmed WAEC’s commitment to safeguarding the credibility of the examination process and emphasised that stringent measures would continue to be applied against all forms of malpractice.
