Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education in Ghana, has announced that Ghana will soon introduce a Gifted and Talented Education program. This significant development was highlighted by Dr. Adutwum during the State of Ghana’s Education Address held in Accra.
In his address, Dr. Adutwum remarked on the current state of gifted and talented learners in Ghana. He noted that these students, as well as those who are struggling, require targeted support to maximize their potential. In our country, gifted and talented learners are often the most miserable,” Dr. Adutwum stressed.
Dr. Adutwum acknowledged the common suggestion from various quarters that gifted and talented learners should be placed in technical and vocational schools. However, he clarified that Ghana has moved beyond this conventional approach. Instead, the government is establishing a specialized program designed to nurture these students’ unique abilities and talents more effectively.
Dr. Adutwum expressed strong optimism about this initiative. He believes that by creating a dedicated educational framework for gifted and talented students, Ghana will provide a more conducive environment for these learners to explore their full potential. This program aims to offer tailored opportunities and resources that go beyond the traditional educational system, ensuring that these students receive the support they need to excel in their areas of strength.
Dr. Adutwum’s remarks underscore the importance of evolving educational strategies to cater to both high-achieving students and those who need additional support.
