The Ghana Education Service (GES) has responded to concerns raised by some newly posted teachers regarding the delay in the issuance of Staff Identification Numbers (Staff IDs) and non-payment of salaries.
In a statement issued on Monday, 24th June 2025, the GES acknowledged receipt of a petition presented by affected teachers who were posted in September 2024. These teachers, though having reported to their stations and assumed duties, expressed frustration over delayed Staff IDs and financial hardship due to unpaid salaries.
According to the GES, a total of 12,807 graduates from Colleges of Education were recruited in 2024. As of December that year, 9,950 of them had received Staff IDs and were duly paid. However, 2,113 received their IDs but could not be paid due to the expiration of financial clearance, while 582 others were yet to be issued Staff IDs owing to discrepancies in documentation such as SSNIT numbers, Ghana Card details, or self-reposting.
The statement emphasised, to address the situation, the current GES Management undertook a nationwide validation exercise in March 2025, aimed at cleaning up the recruitment data and ensuring only genuinely posted teachers are processed. A technical committee, comprising GES officials and representatives from the affected group, was also formed to foster effective communication and expedite resolution.
GES further stressed that, the Minister for Education has engaged the Ministry of Finance, requesting an extension of the expired financial clearance to allow for payment processing. Fortunately, a provision was made in the 2025 budget to cater to these outstanding commitments.
GES also raised concerns about the lack of consistent representation from the aggrieved teachers, which it said makes it difficult to track grievances and ensure follow-up. It called on all concerned parties to work together under a unified structure to help streamline ongoing engagements.

GES assured them that genuine recruits will be paid as soon as the administrative and financial processes are resolved. The Service reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, accountability, and collaborative problem-solving in the interest of teacher welfare and education delivery across Ghana.
