The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved the Accra Sports Stadium for the Ghana Black Stars’ match against the Sudanese national team as part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. This highly anticipated match is set to take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 4:00 PM.
CAF had earlier directed the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to renovate and maintain their stadia to meet international standards. This directive followed Ghana’s previous match against Angola, where concerns were raised about the quality of the playing surface and overall stadium conditions.
In response to the directive, the NSA and GFA swiftly closed both the Accra Sports Stadium and the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for maintenance. After extensive renovations, the Accra Sports Stadium has now met the required standards and has been approved for the upcoming match. The approval brings relief to football fans eager to see the Black Stars perform in optimal conditions.
It is worth noting that some fans and supporters attributed Ghana’s loss to Angola to the subpar condition of the pitch, which was seen as a contributing factor to the team’s underwhelming performance. With the renovations complete, Ghanaians are hoping for a much-improved performance from the Senior National Team in their upcoming clash with Sudan.
Fans and supporters expect nothing less than a top-tier performance from the Black Stars, with the hope that the improved pitch conditions will inspire the team to victory.
