The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially opened the application process for the 2023 Senior Rank Grades Promotion. This announcement was made public on Monday, 19th February, 2024, through a letter signed by Angela Frimpomaa Nkansah, who is the Acting Director of Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD). The purpose of this communication is to invite qualified serving Officers/Teachers to apply for consideration to the senior rank grades within the GES.
Senior Rank Grades in GES:
The senior rank grades within the Ghana Education Service encompass Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent. It is imperative to note that Directorship positions, including the Director General and the two Deputy Director Generals, are attained through appointment.

Eligibility Criteria for 2023 GES Senior Rank Grades Promotion:
Deputy Director:
- The applicant should have been promoted to the grade of Assistant Director I on or before 2019.
- Continuous service at the current post since the promotion date is required, except for periods of approved leave of absence.
Assistant Director I:
- The applicant should have been promoted to the grade of Assistant Director II on or before 2019.
- Continuous service at the current post since the promotion date is required, except for periods of approved leave of absence.
Assistant Director II:
- The applicant should have been promoted to the grade of Principal Superintendent on or before 2019.
- Continuous service at the current post since the promotion date is required, except for periods of approved leave of absence.
Principal Superintendent:
- The applicant should have been promoted to the grade of Senior Superintendent I on or before 2019.
- Continuous service at the current post since the promotion date is required, except for periods of approved leave of absence.
Special Note for Officers/Teachers with Master’s Degree and PhD:
- Applicants relying on Masters or Doctorate Degrees must ensure that their programs align with the approved GES courses of study.
- The Masters/PhD certificate should not have been obtained before the previous promotion.
- Applicants using Masters/PhD certificates for Deputy Director, AD I, and AD II should have obtained their certificate on or before 2021.
Application Process:
All applicants are required to log on to www.gespromotions.gov.gh starting from Monday, 26th February, 2024, to initiate their application.
Important Reminders During the Application:
- Complete the Application Form and upload a clear and readable passport-sized photograph.
- Upload only the last Promotion, Upgrading, or Appointment letter in PDF format.
- Applicants using Masters/PhD Degrees must upload their certificates.
Deadline for Application:
The online application period ends on Sunday, 31st March, 2024. It is crucial for all eligible officers and teachers within the GES to adhere to this deadline.
