Teachers play a vital role in shaping the future, yet their own well being is often overlooked. Recognizing this, Woraso Presby JHS and Primary, under the Sekyere Kumawu Education Directorate, participated in a nationwide program focused on “Mental Health and Psychosocial Well being of Teachers.” The initiative aimed to highlight the importance of mental health in education and provide teachers with strategies to manage stress, burnout, and emotional well being.
A Crucial Conversation
The program explored key issues affecting teachers’ mental health, including:
✅ Understanding Mental Health – What it means and why it matters
✅ The Importance of Well-being – How a teacher’s mental state impacts students and the learning environment
✅ Mental Health Challenges in Ghana – Barriers to seeking help and the stigma surrounding mental health issues
✅ Why Support is Necessary – The benefits of prioritizing mental health in education
✅ The Effects of Burnout – Causes, symptoms, and long-term consequences for teachers and students
A Show of Support
The session wasn’t just about discussions—it also saw strong backing from educational leaders. Mr. Kwame Owusu Danso, the District Education Director, along with his personal assistant and Mr. Ofei, the District Early Childhood Coordinator, visited the gathering to inspect the session and offer words of encouragement. They even provided snacks as a token of appreciation for the teachers’ dedication on behalf of the organizers.
Why This Matters
Mental health is just as important as physical health, especially for teachers who shape young minds every day. When educators struggle with stress, exhaustion, or burnout, it affects their performance and, ultimately, student success. By addressing these issues, we ensure a more effective, compassionate, and resilient education system.
Program Schedule
The event kicked off at 9:00 AM, with an interactive session that kept teachers engaged. A 10-minute break at 10:46 AM allowed for refreshments before discussions resumed at 11:06 AM. The program concluded at 12:10 PM, leaving teachers with valuable insights and a renewed focus on their well being.
